Someone mentioned to me a few months ago that they "never go past the first page of Google search results when looking for something."
I replied, "So I can sell you anything!"
I got a strange look from the person, so I followed my statement up with an explanation. It went something like this...
"Many companies drop big cash on SEO services to land on the first page of Google search results... but this doesn't mean their products and services are the best, nor does it mean that their products and services are lousy. It simply means, that you may be an easy target for businesses with a large SEO marketing and sales budget, because you are willing to pay for the first thing you come across - without research to determine the actual quality and value of the products or services you're in search of.
Top ranking in Google does not validate that a product and/or service is good or not... it could simply be the case whereas a company has a huge marketing budget, or the right marketing message and SEO strategy to get them placed on the first page of Google.
But! Top ranking in Google can also mean that the company's products and/or services are an excellent value and of first rate quality.
The bottom line is that, you shouldn't let Google nor any other search engine make your purchasing decisions for you. They are simply tools to help you find things. You should dig deeper into search engine results. There's a lot of great companies that can be found on the second, third, fourth pages of search results, companies that don't always have big marketing budgets to help them get on the first page of Google.
So, next time you're in search of a product or service - dig a little deeper into the search results and see what other options exist beyond the first page of Google."
